We have been supplementing our children's education through the Huntington Learning Center. They provide a thorough initial assessment of your child's strength and weaknesses. They go twice a week and we can see the improvement. One on One instruction is invaluable. Last night, I had my son (who is also in the 1st grade) grab one of his reading books and his reading fluency and comprehension has changed greatly since entering the program. I highly recommend their services.

There is Kumon center in the woodmore towncenter. I have no experiece with them but it may be something you can explore.

I know you are looking for a reading tutor, but some of the reading practice can also be done at home. Just learned about Starfall, and DuckDuck Moose apps. My 3 year old and I play some of the phonics and reading games together, and there are moments when she's goes on the applications on her own. As Starfall has a sign language tutorial, she's even learning to sign the alphabet and some words. Highly recommend these!

I am in search of a reading tutor to help my 1st grader with fluency and reading comprehension. I would love to find someone located in or near Upper Marlboro, MD who is certified in teaching and has taught reading before. Any ideas?

We are currently with Sylvan but it is too far a drive.
