Is this trauma based? Still rude, but it may be an explanation.

That’s weird. My MIL always tries to sign her packages from “Santa” despite multiple reminders that Santa doesn’t come to her house, only our house. Santa only brings one present for each kid at our house too. Adults get credit for the things they buy.

What would you think of this? FYI this is in a pretty big family - lots of aunts/uncles, and lots of cousins.

Is the bolded what your sibling said, or is this how you interpreted it?

What would the explanation be, otherwise?

I buy my kids presents in my parents' name because my parents can't be bothered, so I don't see anything wrong with it in theory, but not in the scenario you described where you're already buying the kid a gift.

Rude and unnecessary. I certainly never expected more than a single gift from my aunts and uncles.

I'd be tempted to respond that I'm sorry to hear that their child equates material gifts with being loved and valued.

Well, how did you respond?

That is really strange and a little offensive.

Offensive, and why wouldn't a 20 dollar gift from an aunt or uncle be good enough?

One of my siblings said they're putting a couple presents under the tree "from me" (that they bought) so that their child feels valued, because my one $20 present isn't enough. What would you think of this? FYI this is in a pretty big family - lots of aunts/uncles, and lots of cousins.
