Bobby Flay did a podcast episode on this — the podcast he did with his daughter Sophie during Covid. Given the times he specifically suggested recipes that had multiple kinds of seafood per item that would get you to the seven fishes without having to actually make a seven course meal.

Yeah, keep it as simple as possible. Hit some of the fish with appetizers. Clam dip. Shrimp cocktail. Lobster bisque.

When we holiday in Italy, we have a chef come prepare this at our villa. It's not inexpensive, but it is a lot of fun!

Is their tradition to do an Italian menu, or to just serve 7 fish dish?

It's typically an Italian menu, but I'm trying to modernize it so my family enjoys it and wants to continue the tradition. I love the suggestion for rice crispy sushi - I never would have thought of that, as my brain is stuck on Italian recipes.

Clam chowder (very light, brothy)
Mini crab cakes
Linguine with shrimp and scallops scampi
Fried rock fish and fish sticks
Asparagus
Arugula salad

I need one more seafood item and I also need dessert. Swedish fish is the obvious choice.

Rice crispy sushi would be perfect.

Reviving this very old thread, as I'm looking for new, fresh ideas for Christmas Eve's Feast of the Seven Fishes. I have teens and would love dishes more catered to their palate.

Thinking of
small cup of lobster bisque soup
fried calamari
mini fish and chips?
blinis with smoked salmon
fish tacos?

any other suggestions?

I think I’m the second replier- we make baccala, but the only one who really loves it is an uncle. Cos is cod.

This is a similar meal to what my family made in the past.

We start with an anti pasta with vegetables and tuna and sardines.

Next course is frittes (fried dough) and a huge crab pasta.

Next course is clams, mussels, conch, fried smelts, calamari, etc

Then dessert

Keep it light at the beginning; coquille St. Jacques will have everyone too full.

Open some clams or oysters

Chilled shrimp or king crab; horseradish, lemons, cocktail sauce.

Make a seafood salad (squid, shrimp, mussels, bay scallops, maybe a chopped up lobster tail) with a light vinaigrette.

Grilled salmon
