I don't want dirty kid's shoes in my house either

My kids and I don't wear shoes in the house. DH is like Mr. Rogers--he changes into "house shoes" when he comes inside. I don't wear socks either, though my kids often do. Socks make me nervous because we live in a three-story house with hardwood floors and stairs!

We don't wear shoes in the house. Keeps the house cleaner. I hate socks so I don't wear them in the house. I don't care if others do. My husband and kids do both. I would assume they don't wear socks in the house because they are uncomfortable or they don't want to get the socks dirty.

That's funny. We are no shoes but I always wear socks. In summer I have a few pairs by the door. I also have sweaty feet and just don't want them sticking to the floor.

We have a no shoes rule and one year old DS often goes barefoot because he slips even with no slip socks. Even I have to wear grippy socks or slippers in the house. It's a lot of old worn wood and slippery tile. A few weeks ago, DH slipped on the stairs while wearing socks and almost threw out his back. So I understand fellow barefoot people!

I find the no-sock thing to be weird. I'd ask why.

I have a HORRIBLE toenail fungus right now that is a beast to treat. I grosses me out and it's my toe. I would NOT want to subject someone else to flaky fungus dermatophytes on their floors!

Socks are slippery, I have the same problem in my house. We are shoes-off, and can't have carpets because one of my children is allergic to dust mites.

I bought leather slippers for the family, but DD prefers either bare feet or socks, so I told her she had to be careful with socks. Some of our guests go barefoot, others keep their socks but then I tell them to be careful, particularly on the stairs.

In the summer when it's hot, everyone goes barefoot.

I wonder if they have polished floors and it’s a safety concern? Might be worth asking the parents and providing non slip socks if that’s it. Just call parents directly. It’s not a weird request on their part or for you to check in about it. Asking someone directly will be far more useful and reliable than speculation (or bristling).

Maybe they have slippery floors. My friend has a no-shoe house (rule) and very smooth, shiny floors so she always warns young kids and their parents that they might want to ditch the socks too.

So? Presumably the house is heated.

I think its common courtesy to take off your shoes in someone's house if your shoes are dirty/wet from the snow/muddy.

DD goes to her friend's house where all shoes are removed at the front door. Fine. But DD said the family doesn't want anyone to wear socks either. Weird, right? It's a beautiful modern house and very clean from what I can see from the foyer. DD said her feet aren't cold. She is four and the play dates are drop off.
