I also buy the tops from Danskin on Walmart.com. They come and go as to availability for good styles. You can't beat the price and they are indistinguishable from most athletic tops. I don't think leggings or sports bras would be comparable though.
I think that it depends a lot on what workout you are doing. I run, and I buy running specific (brooks, nike, some athleta) tights because they don't chafe, I feel good in them and they wear well. If I pay attention, I can always get them for at least 20 percent off and they will last.
For shirts, I buy a lot at Target or TJMaxx/Marshal's because they start to smell over time and I like to be able to replace them without guilt.
Second old navy. It holds up well, believe it or not.
But for a little bit of fun if you don't have many now, subscribe to ellie workout wear, ren active, yogaclub, or fabletics to get new outfits monthly. Adidas used to have a quarterly one that included shoes too, but they are on hiatus.

I used to buy from lucy, but their style hasn't been great the last year or so (although quality still good). I've found great deals at the Nike outlet on NY Avenue and they have been perfectly fine quality.
