My dh has been working in security and Intel sans a security clearance. He is looking into ways of getting one so he can expand his career options.
The tough part about doing it through the military, my knowledge is Army, is that you have to meet ASVAB requirements for the MOS and be willing to relocate as an Active Duty Soldier. It could be a good foot in the door with the clearance plus added experience. The Army Reserve is another way to go but with the demand of Intel jobs in this area and the Reserve Unit vacancies it’s kind of hard to find.
Is the Active Duty something your family would be interested in? Provided your husband was able to meet the enlistment criteria along with the ASVAB score?

About 98% of the military is not cleared TS/SCI.
And that was their choice to choose a job, Army specifically, that didn’t require one.

Agree. My DH got his last employer to sponsor him for a clearance even though he didn't totally need it, it was just convenience. But DH saw an opportunity and he took it. Even if your clearance later lapses because you don't keep it active, you are still "clearable" which is better than having no clearance at all.

You need to be sponsored. If you can’t get it done at your current job, good luck. There are lots of people already qualified to fill many open jobs requiring clearances. It could be difficult to get one of those without holding a clearance already.

By “best” way, do you mean the easiest way? They’re all essentially the same, even though they are adjudicated by different agencies depending on where you work. The difference is the level of access to classified information.
The easiest way is probably to get hired by a government contractor who will sponsor you for whatever level of clearance your new job necessitates. Military too, sure. In the civilian world, clearances take so long these days that having one is really a prerequisite for a lot of jobs.

Apply for a job that will sponsor you for one. Most military personnel don't have clearances.
