Just made this decision (but was looking at the cx-9 not Escape) and bought a 2017 hybrid rav4 this weekend. I honestly don't think you can make a bad choice between the crv and rav4, but I have a friend with a hybrid camry and he was so enthusiastic about it it tipped me to the rav4 hybrid side.

I love my 2009 Escape. I have spent very little on repairs.

I love my CR-V.

I bought an Escape in 2005. My dad and my brother liked it so much they bought Escapes. Mine just died, so it only lasted 12 years. My dad gave me his since he doesn't drive anymore and my brother's was wrecked in an accident.

We rented one of the new ones a couple months ago and really liked it.

The one you like driving but all are really small. I'd go slightly bigger.

Another person who has a Toyota and a Honda who is very happy.

I too have heard time and time again from mechanics and car owners: Honda and Toyota all the way.

Drove all three. Bought a Ford Escape. I am short and felt like seat gave me the best visibility. Compared to cars I have owned in the past it seems expensive to maintain. I spend about $500.00 a year on average. I probably won’t buy one again.

I bought a loaded, new CRV in 2007 and I don’t ever want to drive anything else! It’s got 185K on it and the only money I’ve put into it is routine stuff. I grew up in Michigan so ALWAYS drove domestics (had 1993 Ford Taurus and 2001 Chevy Blazer previously) before giving up and getting a Honda. Highly recommend. I think Ford is improving but for now...go with the Honda or Toyota.

(I only ranked the CRV ahead of the RAV because I prefer the aesthics of the CRV for some reason but they’re both durable, reliable vehicles that’ll last forever. Would not buy a Ford.)

I’m into year 12 with my RAV 4. Love it.

My mechanic told me he can only recommend Hondas or Toyotas to anybody. I had three Fords and regret having every single one of them. None of Fords last 15 years. Mechanic even told me if that he would recommend slightly used Toyota or Honda over all other cars brand new. Not taking into account high end cars.

Looking at all three cars, which fall into the crossover SUV category and are a similar size. Ford Escape is #3, but would like to hear thoughts from folks who have compared these same cars. We drive our cars for 15 plus years.
