Food cooked in a pressure cooker just doesn't have the same simmered taste as something cooked the old-fashioned way. I am not a fan. While some things come out fine in a slow cooker, I have had the best luck with my stove and my oven.

Didnt read other responses (sorry). Main reason I LOVE mine - it makes great tasting dishes quickly and it is only 1 pot to clean. In about 40 min to an hour I can make:
- chick soup
- beef and potato stew
- amazing chix curry (marinating required though)
We eat at home more instead of getting take out, because I can throw things in after work and have a meal in 40 min.

Those of you who keep saying crock pot food is nasty must be pisspoor cooks, or unable to determine how to adapt good, healthy recipes to a slow cooker.

It's a pressure cooker that you can sautee in. Not a crock pot. I hate crock pot food. Love my instant pot for apple sauce, oatmeal, stews in 40 min, lentils, beans etc. ready for dinner same day. I do not make chicken in it. That still doesn't come out well. Steamed all veggies in it for baby food too.

I've been kind of tempted to get one if it can replace the other gadgets I use -

crock pot
rice cooker
pressure cooker

Can I get an intstapot and then get rid of the rest?

We use ours all the time. We get home from work late and don't have a lot of time to get dinner on the table, so anything that takes over 20 minutes usually isn't happening on a weeknight. With it we're able to make really good rice, or potatoes, or corn on the cob in less time than it would usually take to boil the water. We also use it for soups and a really good homemade mac and cheese. We haven't really ventured out into other recipes, but I keep meaning to.

It is best for making things you'd make in a slow cooker or braise - just a lot faster. Like think "I want to eat food from a crock pot, but I don't want to have to think about it in the morning before I go to work"

I use mine for making yogurt, soups/stews/stocks, and to do crockpot stuff faster. It also makes very good hardboiled eggs, and there are a handful of meals you can just dump in there and have ready quickly with little hands on time (like frozen meatballs + a jar of sauce + pasta + water) can be ready within 25 minutes or so without me touching anything. But most of the recipes like this are a ton of cream-of-crap type processed stuff.

Gadgets she already has? What do you cook in these things anyway?
