We will likely transfer to Young as soon as DC1 is in middle school there. Way better than having two dropoffs.

Hi! We are the first family to transfer from 4th to young. We drove either way and the young campus seemed a better fit for my family: bigger outdoor space, potential to play after school and meet other families, and generally more of a cohesive community. We also loved 4th but looking forward to Young next hear!

PP, we are in the same situation as you, love Young but commute is tough. How do you like the 4th St. campus?

We were at TR Young for 2 years before transferring to 4th Street this year. A few thoughts:

(1) I wholly agree that Young is awesome. The only reason we left was the commute, and even then we had such a hard time deciding because we loved Young so much. I agree that among the TR Young families I knew, there definitely was a love of the school — it is not just a placeholder or consolation prize for people who would rather be at 4th.

(2) I agree that it does not appear there is much movement between the campuses. As far as I can tell my child is the only one to transfer from Young to 4th this year, and she is in K. So to your main question: if you are interested in TR (either campus) I definitely don’t think it is a waste to put it on your list, because I don’t think you should assume that all the spots will be taken by transfers.

(3) Even if you don’t get in in the initial round you may get a wait list offer. We have had a couple new students in my child’s K class — a few prior to count day as people got offers from other schools but we had one new child arrive just last week.

Families I know that have entered Young end up loving it and stay put. Regardless, I would list the school if you are interested. You never know what is going to happen.

This has been the case for us. TRY family since the new campus' opening year. I ranked TR4 as first choice and TRY as second choice and was matched to TRY and ranked number 40something for TR4. About a month into the 15-16 school year, got a call and email from the registrar that a spot had opened for DC at TR4 if I wanted to transfer him, but we were so happy with TRY we stayed put. Besides, I love the outdoor space at TRY--during the warmer days, they often do some instruction time outside and the kids love it.

Has the 4th street location done anything to improve outdoor space access?

Hi, can anyone fill me in on how the Two Rivers transfer preference works? Is there any point in listing the 4th Street location, or do all the spots go to transfers from the Young location? This would be for K. Thank you.
