Pretty much.

As long as a few random white people are used as sacrificial goats every year, the rest of us the white people are safe from the locals getting mad and burning stuff down.

Second, I'm glad MPD does not chase. It would just cause unnecessary death and even more mayhem. It sounds like MPD has taken a harder line this year about doing reconnaissance and confiscating ATVs/motorcycles when riders put into storage or try to park them in backyards. That's how you crack down on them.

Why not at least charge them with moving violations? Traffic court has no jury, and I'm sure a judge would find them guilty.

How do you issue a ticket for an idiot on an ATV with no plates? Think before you type.

Because we might hurt their feelings by punishing them.

Punishment is racist.... or something

Its what people want around here, the MPD barring an outright homicide could care less about "lesser" crimes.

Seriously, why does this not occur to people? I really don't want to get hit by a kid on a dirt bike trying to get away from a police officer. Do you? The satisfaction of knowing that some kids were caught would not make up for losing a family member or being permanently paralyzed by or even a broken leg from a kid running into me.

Um, I don't want to be the parent of the preemie in this ambulance stopped by lawless ATV riders because of backward enforcement policies in DC.

Because the "old guard" still runs the city. Marion Barry may be dead, but his legacy continues.

DC government is rife with corrupt officials and patronage positions. I'm liberal, but DC is a great example of the pitfalls of extreme liberalism. Too many people live here knowing full and well that their existence will be taxpayer-subsidized (housing, childcare, healthcare transit fees...) and that they won't have to work as hard or as seriously as those who foot the bill. I work in healthcare and people (support staff and patients) openly talk about themselves or others they know exploiting their children or loved ones so that they can get their benefit checks.

I've lived all over the country (California, the Deep South, New York), but nowhere has class, wealth, and race been so touchy as DC.

Money. It takes a lot of money and time to go after *all* the crimes committed. And the courts would be completely clogged. Heads are turned to a lot. It also is in surrounding areas, it's just not as concentrated.

Where do you live and what do you even know about DC and its crime rates?

Hopefully you are at least aware that more and more jurisdictions are adopting no pursuit rules on most offenses because police chases so often end with avoidable tragedies?

MPD and the criminal justice system in DC are both far from perfect and should be scrutinized but I doubt you have the first hand knowledge to contribute to such a discussion.

Laws aren't enforced, MPD has a "no chase policy," youth offenders aren't even given so much as a slap on the wrist...why is DC so soft on crime?
