We slept with puppy in the crate (well, halfway in the crate). This helped.
We spayed at 1 yr. She wasn’t playful the first few days so activity wasn’t an issue, but every dog is different.
I think confining to a bathroom would work.
Also, for crate training - use blankets that smell familiar.

I would delay spaying for a month and use the time to crate train. Get a crate that looks different from the previous one, hang a blanket over it and feed her there.

A word of warning. Our puppy just would not stop jumping after being spayed, and permanently injured her pelvic floor. Now, even at age 8, she has issues with daily urine leaks unless she is on medication. Absolutely confine your puppy to a cage for several days if she won't stop jumping and running. It is about the long term healing.

OP, you really need to make arrangements to have someone with her the day after the surgery. The day of the surgery is not the issue.

She is 9 mo. Just got her a month ago. She was supposedly crate trained but she actually wasn’t. She bent the frame of her crate getting out. Now, she stays out and has access to the kitchen and living room (one big space). The first few weeks were rough but knock on wood - this week she is digging the potty pads and not chewing shoes.

I might see about getting her a sitter on rover. No way I can afford to board her two weeks at the vet.

Honestly sounds like you should arrange to board her at the vet, day 1 is cake because she’ll be too out of it to try to do much. Where is she normally when you work? You said she’s a puppy & puppies do things like gnaw cords and chew furniture when bored.

I can't imagine my pup being on limited activity 10-14 days. The day after the surgery, it was like nothing happened.

Keep her quiet the day of the surgery.

You need to take the day off or work from home.

My dog was like a sick little kid. She was groggy, groaned, and couldn't get comfortable for hours after the surgery. I just sat next to her on the floor next to her.

She needs to be confined to a small, safe place.

You will want to be with them that afternoon you pick her up and the next day. So take off or plan for a Friday surgery.

By day 2.5- three my dog was acting normal and running and jumping.

are you able to confine her in the kitchen with baby gates?

She is not crate trained and freaks out in the crate (we are working on it). She is getting spayed - what do I do with her during the day while I am work. She will jump on the couch. We live in a small apartment.
