If the ticket is in lieu of presents (from baby shower and all things baby-related), then I see how it could be fun.

I assume, however, that this couple plans to to receive more traditional gifts for their baby, in which case $5 on top of that is rather vulgar.

My dad said they did a 50/50 contest to guess when I would be born at his construction company workplace in 1991, and they did it when any guy had a kid. So I guess as a concept I don't find it that offensive. But at a gender reveal it's pretty weird. But gender reveals in general are dumb.

I hate gender reveal parties because I don't like knowing the sex ahead of time. These parties celebrate a stereotypical view of what a girl or a boy baby is. Just not a fan.

Amongst our family members (siblings, grandparents and parents), we did have a baby pool that everyone threw $5 in. It was our siblings idea and the winner that was closest to the birth date and sex won it all. We didn't set it up or benefit at all from it.

Right?? Just let people pick tickets at the door and offer a prize for the winner. That's cute and fun (if gender reveal parties are your thing), and the hosts are out a couple bucks for the prize.

I just left the Facebook group that was posted in. I can't abide that foolishness.

I just saw someone post this on Facebook:

When we did our party we wanted to buy pink and blue tickets, each costing say... 5$ and just like a 50/50 everyone could buy tickets from the gender they thought baby would be. Both tickets go into separate bowls and once the gender is reveals that bowl (pink or blue) has a ticket randomly selected and you have your winner of half the pot, and baby receiving the other half!



Going to your gender reveal is bad enough, but having to PAY to be at your gender reveal?? What. The. Actual. F**k is wrong with people??
