Yes PP, please explain how Olney is becoming ghetto. My family has lived in Olney for over twenty years and I'm considering moving there with my family since it seems to be getting more diverse. I hope we don't live on your street.

I posted about the overcrowding earlier and I just wanted to back it. Please go here: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/CIP19_EntireBook.pdf it's large but if you view the Sherwood cluster on pg 150 I think it describes what I am talking about.

It is also part of the reason there is no before/after care at the school. There is simply no space for one. All classrooms are at capacity, centralized dismissal to the All Purpose Room (cafeteria), teachers stay in their classrooms to work, you can't serve food/drink in the gym, and will not add a modular because outdoor space is very limited to begin with (on days the grounds are too wet, some grades have indoor recess since the blacktop is limited).

I think the things they do well the other Olney schools probably also do well so if I had the choice I would pick a different school.

This. I have kids at OES and while I don't think that overcrowding is really impacting their learning, I do wish that we had done more homework & bought near Belmont instead, makes me envious to talk to friends with kids there that have way smaller class sizes. Not sure what their rennovation plan is though, a temporary location would be a pain.

OES is the only ES in the Sherwood cluster that is overcrowded. The administration is fantastic and handling it well, but I would consider one of the other ES's in the Sherwood cluster if you have the option. MCPS projects OES will remain overcroweded and the others will not. Additionally, Belmont will be renovated and expanded.

It's a good school. One of the bigger elementary schools in the Sherwood cluster. But it's a strong school and parents and students are generally happy.

I didn't know there's no after school care in the school. I'll call the school and find out if there are any facilities that bus the children to a close by after school care program. Thanks.

Sometimes having more students means having more classes in each grade, rather than just a few larger classes. I’d call the school and ask about class sizes. I live in olney and have only heard good things about olney Es.

ISO feedback for Olney elementary. Is the school community friendly? Are the class sizes larger than the other Olney school? Olney elementary has lot more students than other schools close by so we were worried about the class size.
