Subject: Bombed job interview
OP, this will make you feel better. Went in for an interview once and the guy interviewing me was a one night stand who I had met at Polly Esthers (yes, i am old). He snuck out while I was asleep and left a fake phone number. Most awkward 20 minutes of my life.

I did the same a few months ago. I didn't get the job. Next time I have an interview, I plan to prepare by having my friends mock interview me and critique.

Third round with same firm
Two new people
First two people like me in prior rounds liked me and I got along with them quite a bit
I didn’t really jive well with these two
And then one asked about something I had on my resume (I coach a sport - I put it at the end in my interests) and he is into that sport
And I go “I could talk about that all afternoon, but I know we have limited time”

And the guy goes “yeah sure I’d like to hear what you have to say “
And then I ended up rambling about that and I think the other interviewer was annoyed
If that's all you did to mess up, I don't think it's a big deal. I tend to either answer too briefly or over share, so I get the difficulty.

That's ok. With each interview you learn.
I hire a lot. The key is self-awareness. Pay attention to clues the interviewer gives you about where he/she wants the interview to go. If they start to lose focus, stop talking and let them ask another question.
LISTENING is more important than talking.

I’m a manager who’s done a lot of hiring lately. We do two rounds (three if you count an initial phone screen with HR). But the second in-person round is only for the top 1-2 candidates, and it's with my boss. Boss doesn’t want to waste time with non viable candidates.

I make only 60k a year and had 2 rounds of phone interviews, then an interview with the hiring manager and unit staff, then another interview with even more peers. Then finally a ppt presentation and grilling by senior leadership. Then they let me stew for 2 weeks, then asked me to provide 2 references for external partners I'd worked with. Then I finally got an offer. Whole process took 6 months.

Has anyone else noticed it seems even for low level jobs at non elite companies that there are more “rounds” of interviews these days as if they are google or Goldman?
