And your friend probably wasn't expecting your dog to chew them up. If you can afford an animal, you can afford to pay for the damages it causes. It's part of the responsibility of being a dog owner.

If you can't do $200 at once then why don't you do installments ?

Tell her "I am so sorry about what Roscoe did to your shoes. While I don't have $200 to give you right now, I have adjusted my budget and you will have it by January 1." Or whenever you can have it to her by.

(But I kind of do agree with others - what if your dog got sick and needed a vet? That would cost more than $200.)

A little while ago my friend came over and we were sitting on my back porch hanging out. It was very dark back there and I hadn't realized my friend had slipped her shoes off. My dog who is not a puppy and hasn't chewed a shoe in years went to town on one of her designer sandals. I didn't realize it because I thought he was chewing something else and that she still had her shoes on. The next day I told her how sorry I was and that I would buy her a new pair when she goes shopping next. Well she just bought new sandals and they are $200! I can't afford this right now. What do I do? Payment plan? Ugh.
