I agree.Dd teacher is a first year teacher and dh wants me to ask on Thursday who performed the benchmark testing on dd.


BTDT in ACPS, ask for the reading specialist to retest your child. It's quite possible that your child's teacher does not how to properly score and administer the test.

I don't think we're at the same ACPS school, but in our experience the assesssed reading level has been spot on. Hopefully, you get the answers you're looking for during the conference. I get the impression that your daughter will bounce back given the support she receives from you.

For many of these reading tests there's a written element where they're trying to gauge comprehension. The questions are annoying and boring, so my son always doesn't pay attention to answer them. We all know he can read, but he since he can't relay back what he's read, he's gotten marked down. Sometimes it's the assessment process itself.

Its a very subjective test. We went from private to public and it dropped last year. This year it jumped back up again.

OP here,

My dh and I are originally from East Africa.We both value Equal education opportunity for all American kids and Dd was born here.I am looking forward to Thursday conference with dd teacher and hopefully I will learn something to report back.My only concern is how to help dd master her reading gap if that's the case.

One of three things is possible: 1) Montgomery County was wrong. 2) ACPS is wrong. 3) She had a bad test day for ACPS.

Alexandria City Public Schools aren't the best, but there aren't that many problems in the elementary schools.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. It's 3rd grade reading. Just keep giving her books.

Dd is in 3rd grade in ACPS.We moved from Montgomery county to Va in July.Dd was reading above grade level since she learned how to read.Last report card from Montgomery county,Dd was tested out on level P.I received dd report card yestetday and she's on level K,below grade level.How is that possible? She dropped 5 level down.I have a parent conference this Thursday with dd teacher.This the first time I have been informed dd was having issues.please help me undetstand ACPS grading policy.
