Healthy 38/39 yr old couple, sperm normal (even DNA tested normal), FSH is 6, AMH is 1.0. Done 4 retrievals. Total of 28 eggs. All fertilize and divide and make it to day 4 but only 1 turned into a blast/embryo. They literally degenerate around day 4/5 and making it to early or late morula. We did PGS and tested the 1 that made it and it tested abnormal on the 15th chromosome.

Anyone have a story of eggs not making it to day 5?

Thanks for any advice.

I remember overhearing (wasn't trying to listen, but there's no privacy) my RE at CfA talking to another couple after a transfer about this problem. He said that issues between days 3-5 could be suggestive of a severe sperm problem. Did they do a DNA fragmentation test?

Day 3 transfer might help, but since this problem seems so specific it might be worth further investigating the sperm. It also seems like you might need a different RE. Even if they are doing the right things, a different perspective can help. I now have 2 kids (both from the same cycle, first fresh and then a FET for #2). That was after 4 rounds with a different RE. It didn't seem like first RE was doing anything wrong, but new RE looked at everything from a fresh perspective...found an issue that had probably arisen between my first and second rounds with previous RE, corrected it, and I got pregnant on my first round with new RE.

And four retrievals and your RE hasn't thought of this??? Seriously, get a new RE.

3 day transfer! I could never get anything to blast - my first 3 day worked - DD is 15 months

Cornell does something called co-culture in addition to day 3 fresh transfer. Worth looking into or getting s consult with them.

Agree that you will get more responses from the IF board than here.

Also, +1 to PP above who recommended a day 3 transfer. Some embryos do better if they are put back earlier. I know clinics like to push to blast stage if possible, but I've heard stories from several women who had success with a 3dt and multiple failures with 5dt.

maybe you should try a day 3 transfer.

Hi there, this happened to me twice now. First IVF they retrieved 29 eggs, 15 mature, ZERO fertilized! Second IVF, 31 eggs retrieved, 25 mature, 2 fertilized on day one and 6 more fertilized on day 2. All of them arrested by day 6 with one making it to a morula. IVF #1 was antagonist protocol with ICSI. IVF #2 was agonist protocol with ICSI and calcium ionophore.

What dosage of stims are you taking?

The PP is right; this should be moved to the infertility board. Contact the moderator.

You may want to ask to get this moved to the infertility board. A lot of people here may have not idea (like me)
