Uno is pretty easy to play as are dominoes.

There are charade cards with pictures on them, so even non-readers could figure out what they're supposed to be acting out.

Apples to apples is great, but would be hard for a 4 year old because you have to be able to read.

Group games that could include a four year old, maybe pictionary or charades.

You could try something like Jenga, but I'm not sure it would be great for a large group. You might have to divide up your group into smaller groups.

It's a card game, but Spoons might fit your criteria.

Skip bo is popular. They need to be about 6 for that though.

They also have limited attention spans, so it's usually best to let them play on a team with Grandpa, and then when they get bored, they can wander off to do something else while everyone else keeps playing. At least that's the way it works in our house. (I'm the pp with the Monopoly/Carcasonne suggestion)

Apples to Apples works for probably age 9 or so and up. I remember playing that with the full spectrum of family for a lot of xmas fun.

The little kids are hard at age four because they have pretty limited options - chutes and ladders, candy land....

And also Cranium, a little bit of everything. We also play Trivial pursuit a lot. They have a junior version, and the younger ones use those cards and adults use the normal (older) cards.
