We've done this trip. We gave our kids an allowance for junk at the gift shop in South of the Border. On the way back we stayed overnight in Wilmington, NC. It was slightly out of the way, but my kids loved the Carolina Beach boardwalk and midway rides/games (not sure if they're open year round). We had plans to stop in Savannah or Charleston but my kids would not have been interested in anything scenic so we skipped them in favor of getting to a hotel with a pool earlier.

Just stop at Chick fil a. Let them play for a bit and get back on the road.

I did the drive with a 6, 4 and 1 year old. We probably left around 3. We stopped somewhere for dinner that wasn't good (but they got out of the car and ran around). Then we stayed overnight in Savannah - but we stopped pretty late and they probably slept a bit in the car before we got there.

We made plenty of 500+ mile drives with our kids. Pack food in coolers and avoid fast food. When it is time to stop for a break or a meal, pull off the highway and look for a county park. They are everywhere and will always have picnic areas and playgrounds. Spend an hour running around, get back in the car, and be on your way!

We did that drive with a 6 year old over the summer (not our choice - cancelled flight before a cruise). There's not a lot. South of the Border, Charleston, Savannah.

We stopped in Savannah when we ended up driving (snow, canceled flights, couldn't get rebooked on flights that worked for us). It's more than halfway there. Our kids were not that interested in the city itself (but it was a nice walk for us), but we found a really nice, big playground that let them burn off some energy.

Or there's always South of the Border (I kid.)

No advice but I wish more rest stops had fun playgrounds or indoor play areas. I am sure a lot of drivers with young kids would even pay to use them.

Maybe Savannah but there are not a lot of places to stop. Or, rest stops.

God that sounds hellish. I would rather not go.

Not a fun prospect. I would see if you can fly. Otherwise not much of interest on that route. Maybe walk around Savannah?

We are driving to Orlando with our 2 2 year olds this weekend and will be splitting the drive over 2 days to make it slightly more bearable. I'm looking for suggestions on decent (interesting?) places to stop so we can stretch our legs and the boys can run around a bit. Thanks!
