I don't normally send sweets to school but I've always let my kids take 1 small piece a day for a few days after Halloween. I think it's fun. But one loud mom complained and this year we don't have any sweets for the parties and no candy at school.

My kids will survive but I'm annoyed at the loud-mouth whiner mom. Well, she's annoying anyway, but this adds fuel to the fire.

Ours is also "no candy". I'm fine with it. I think it's easier to draw the line at candy then at sweets because for some, juice is a sweet. I let them pick out a candy in the morning that I bring with me when I pick them up. It's no big deal.

Our preschool teacher sent an email asking for now candy in the lunches. She said it had to do with the kids not eating much of their lunch because they ate only the candy and assume they were a wild bunch later. Also some harder candies are a choking hazard. It makes sense to have a blanket rule.

I think a hard line at candy is a good one. Our schools have always been the same, since preschool. Sure, other sweets are just as bad! But no candy is easy and sensible. My kids can have their candy after dinner!

I let my kids take one piece too, OP. I'd be bummed if I got that note from the teacher but, I'd comply.

Is this "school" as in, daycare/preschool, or are we talking about an actual elementary school.

They can send guidelines, but I don't have much tolerance for so-called policies like this.

Why does it hurt more than help? Hell, when I was a kid my lunch box was full of crap.

Ridiculous. I'm not surprised though.

I have a now-young-adult godson who grew up in poverty. I'd often take him places on the weekends-museums, events, the beach, roller skating, restaurants. He was told in about 1st grade by his teacher that he was not allowed to talk about these outings when the class discussed what they did over the weekend because it would make the other children feel bad.
