Three are 3 ES that feed into Hoover MS - Wayside, Beverly Farms and Potomac. All 3 have negligible FARMS populations (under 5% is not tracked further) - there are only about 12 ES in MCPS with that statistic.

Potomac has 5.8% ESOL and 6.5% SPED. Beverly Farms has 7.4% ESOL and 7.4% SPED. Wayside has 8.9% ESOL and 8.7% SPED.

Wayside absolutely has FARMS students. There are HOC units and MPDUs within several of the communities. My kids are no longer there, but they definitely had friends who were part of the FARMS program. These parents went out of their way to make sure their kids were in a school with a LOW FARMS rate. They wanted their kids to be educated, not be in class with lots of kids who may not have enough to eat at home which can lead to other problems at school.

If you don't know anything about how a very high FARMs rate( 45-50%) impacts poor kids then it's better to ask and get educated rather than show your ignorance. Look at some studies done by MCPS and your will realize what kind of impact it can have on schools in terms of resource.

We toured it when we moved here from the West Coast. It was on our list of top 4 schools in the area but it was hard to find somewhere to rent in the boundary.

We ended up in a different Bethesda area ES where we rented then bought, but we thought very highly of the Wayside school when we visited it.


Does MCPS schools provide tours if you request? I wasn't aware of it. Thanks for this idea. I will still love to hear from current parents.

You really should take a tour and see for yourself, there is nothing that beats that assessment, honestly.

We toured it when we moved here from the West Coast. It was on our list of top 4 schools in the area but it was hard to find somewhere to rent in the boundary.

We ended up in a different Bethesda area ES where we rented then bought, but we thought very highly of the Wayside school when we visited it.

I appreciate all of you taking time to comment here. More comments listing pros and cons are welcome. It helps a lot in our situation because we don't know anyone in this school boundary. If anyone has any input about how good or bad mild special needs kids area treated then it will help us a lot.

Great principal
No FARMS
Little bit of Asian ESOL
Good fundraising
100% of the community is in homes so the turnover is low

The principal is very nice, PTA is active but not overwhelming. A lot of the kids are coming from the nearby neighborhoods, the community feeling is strong.
