Ask the daycare...but it'll prob have to be for afternoon snack. Not many daycares wants to give cupcakes at lunchtime before nap. And get the mini cupcakes! And no balloons - OMG no.

My neighbor was the reason her daughter's preschool stopped allowing parents to come in for birthday celebrations. For three years the neighbor would treat the preschool classroom like a private rented birthday venue. She'd try and take over for 90-minutes with games, balloons, opening gifts (because she did send out invites with a wish list & brought in several gifts for her own child), face painting, costume character. She'd have both sets of grandparents show up, older sibling, spouse. She couldn't understand why the school had an issue with it and thought it was silly she should rent a venue when the kids were already together at school.

Now parents can only drop off cupcakes.

Ask her teachers, OP. Every daycare is different.

Ask her teachers. Our daycare would allow it - grandparents but NEVER balloons. Balloons scare a lot of two year olds.

Balloons are too much and the grandparents may not be allowed in the classroom depending on security. It is not a birthday party, you are taking in cupcakes to the classroom.

You do not send out invitations to classroom celebration, unless you are doing a gift grab (which is what everyone will say if you send out invites)

You ask the daycare teacher when the usual time for parties is and then show up with the cake. No other parents care! No party favors, no big deal. The room/teacher usually has her own ritual since it happens with every child.

Bring cupcakes instead of cake and small snacks that you can distribute easily. Bring paper plates and napkins. Individual waters or juice boxes. All of this so you don't make the preschool teachers run around looking for knives or paper towels and cups. Double check with teachers about allergies first too.

You mean daycare? Ask the director about cakes - our daycare only allowed cakes from one of two specific nut free bakeries. And the teachers have done this before so they know when the best time to have the "party" is. In DS's daycare it was after nap.

Oh but you could bring themed plates and napkins if you want

For the party at preschool - the teachers will tell you what time works for them - you show up with cupcakes or a cake - all of the kids sing and then you pass out the food. You don't bring anything else because it really isn't a party party - it's really just cupcakes/cake and a song.

I am thinking of having a small birthday celebration for daughter who is turning 2 this December. I have heard of it from some friends but I am not sure how to really implement. I mentioned it to one of her teachers, and she is fine doing it. Do I just bring a cake and have them sing a song and we cut the cake? Do I need do a paper invitation/notification to the other parents? Do I need to favors? This is my first child and I have no idea how these things work. Please let me know.
