I have a daughter in 9th who just started at Stone Ridge.

I just joked to my friend that the social calendar at the school (things sponsored by the school for both parents and students) rivals the number of birthday parties the kids go to in Kindergarten. Remember how many of those there were??

My daughter seems to feel very much at home, just a couple of months in. I think it is large part because of all of the activities, and how friendly her classmates seem to be.

I'm not PP but my observation is that SR girls spend a lot less time with Prep boys than Visi girls spend with Gonzaga. Not sure why but that's just how it is. Gonzaga is decidedly less academic than Prep, but Visi has similar levels of academics to SR.



Upon what do you base this comment?


Both Gonzaga and Visi seem to let students in based on parish quotas and not necessarily academic achievement and test scores.
Prep is intensely academic and very competitive to get in (test scores, grades, legacy). SR is closer to that in that if you can't do the work they don't accept you , whereas Visi has a scaled down degree that you can get if you can't do the regular level of work - there's a college preparatory diploma and a general diploma. The general diploma involves fewer credits earned and you can have less than a 2.0 GPA.
Both schools have rigorous coursework if you want it.


I have no experience with SR, although it seems like a great school. PP is completely incorrect about Gonzaga and Visi. I'm not sure why people feel the need to tear down other schools (with no actual basis) in the process of providing information about their own kids' school. It's incredibly juvenile.

In high school they pretty much pair off with a friend group. Some of them are based on sports they play together or theatre or just because they enjoy each other's company.

My DD is kind of into her academics so her group does fun things together (concerts, a dance, a movie, out to eat, shopping etc) but not every weekend.

My daughter is in MS at SR...the girls often have sleep overs on the weekends and many are involved with weekend sports. I am assuming it is like any other school, kids make plans on their own and from time to time there is a school activity.I know that my DD and her friends have zero interest in boys yet

The SR girls find a way to socialize just fine. The academics are higher ranked than visi too btw. Quality over quantity is the comment.

Well, maybe because the Gonzaga boys are close by and they're up for it. Gonzaga is a very social school.

Brother school is Georgetown Prep which is just up the Pike.

Visitation's brother school is Gonzaga.

But SR girls will socialize with both Prep and Gonzaga boys.

Visitation is the favorite of established Catholic famiies. SR to a lesser extent.

We are considering this school for these grades. I am comfortable with the academics but wonder about social stuff.
How do the girls socialize with boys? Is there a brother school and does Stoneridge have dances or arrange mixers? What kid if social opportunities are their for new families? The boy stuff matters less for our rising 7th header but do wonder if they have any specific programs to make new girls feel welcome. Insight is appreciated. One more thing. How is Visitation different regarding social life?
