You all are being unfair, it is more important to make sure your kid knows you are their friend than actually parenting them. I know far too many parents that have told their kids to do stuff then the kids no longer like them.

Maybe there was no allowing - were you ever a teen? Pretty easy to say you are going to stay over at a friends house and so something benign and then head off to the party. Even easier these days with cell phones because kids never have to worry about their parents actually calling their friends house and running the risk of talking to a parent and finding g out kid is not there.

Its not that the HS kids are being specifically invited. they hear about the parties from older brothers, sisters cousins, ect.

Or you just know about the regular party locations. Village A roof tops at Georgetown U is a common spot. prettymuch every weekend there are drunken parties going on...

Many NOVA teens go down to JMU for their famed Halloweekend.

Are these the same parents who drop their 13 year olds off at parties without even knowing if the parents are home?

My HS niece posted scantily clad, alcohol toting pics from a college party this weekend. My sister's excuse is basically that she was cool too, did all of that and worse but turned into a productive adult so doesn't see anything abnormal about the behavior. I was a dork. My daughter will either be a dork or hate me but she won't be following in her cousin's footsteps.

When I was in 10th/11th grade, the female friends I had who were the most "experienced" were the ones whose parents were professors and lived very close to large college campuses in college towns. Because these towns were considered "safe" by the parents, the girls just said they were hanging out with friends and would just walk to frat parties.

So true. My husband is like this, my parents were like this - basically all the people who are introverts and don't socialize, so don't stay in the loop.

My daughter asked me to pick her up Friday around 9pm. Thought she was going to a Markoff's and then friends house with 5 other girls after school. Turned into a "my parents aren't home, let's skip Markoff's, we are having 20+ kids over." Drinking and kids going into bedrooms. She wanted no parts of it.

Not all girls are into the party, drinking, and sex scene.

It is amazing how many parents leave for the weekend and have no clue or care what their teenagers are doing.

To add, in the pictures they're all dressed in super skimpy clothes and these 16-18 year old girls are all obviously drunk (at least) around hundreds of college men.
