Office has glass French doors so it is not private but would keep a younger child out.

DD has one of our older laptops but has to keep it on the main level (dining room, den, living room).

Our school APS assigns so much computer based homework though. They do their homework in their room, and on their own without prompting so checking the chrome book in and out like a warden seems like a lack of trust.

So none these kids have an iPod touch or iPad in their room; I see so many kids lugging around iPads everywhere hard to believe not in their room. And an iPad is pure consumption where laptop is more creative tool.

DS (13) has Chromebook. He generally uses it in the living room which nobody but him is in much. And, I don't have a lot of oversight into what he's doing on his Chromebook. He's still not to the point where he has to use it much for homework.

We intend at some point to get him a desk for his bedroom. So that he can do work up there, if he needs to be away from his little brother. But, we'd probably not let him keep his Chromebook in his room after bed time. Although that might not be a necessary rule with him.

We have several cheap laptops that the kids can us. If they work better in their room - then they can take it their - if not downstairs. No computers in room at night.

All my kids have chrome books, including my 10 year old. We no longer have a PC.

Hopefully, when you mature with your kids and they actually become teens, you will look back on this post and feel a little embarrassed. For starters, teens don't watch TV unless their parents force them to.

Then your kid is nothing like OP's kid, so it doesn't really translate.

No. My 10 year old uses he computer in our dining room. We like being able to keep an eye on it. He only uses it to do research for school. And practice typing.

Absolutely not. The only computer is in the den where I can see what's going on, and that won't change even when I have teenagers. We also don't allow televisions in bedrooms.

No computer in their own room. You need to have the gift of oversight - and also you will want to see his writing etc. If little brother can't stop bothering sibling, little brother needs to be given something else to do, attention from someone else, or consequences for behavior. We have one computer and its in the study that everyone can see and has access to.

DC is interested in writing, animating, movie editing, programming, games, etc...Was thinking about having DC's computer in their room. Would probably prefer having the computer in the family room but we also have a 5 year old who enjoys bothering the older sibling.
