And her scalp probably had some kind of reaction to the lice treatment medication which is why her hair is falling out.

You are not supposed to comb the nits out every day. I had her professionally treated on sunday. Their protocol according to the life cycle of lice, is to repeat treatment 5 days later, which is today. They said daily combing is ineffective.

I'm another who would suggest a good trim to keep the hair healthy and easier to manage.

It is falling out as i brush it. I contacted her specialist and have an appointment on Monday morning. I also reached out to the company that treated her lice to make them aware and ask if there are any known interactions between their product and pool chemicals. They were concerned and had not seen this before and suggested I call the doctor. Up to this point her hair has been very healthy. She gets it cut all the time. She grows hair very fast and always has. She had a substantial cut the second week of Sept. and its already time to cut another 3-4 inches off. I have no problem cutting her hair shorter, but she does. It may be unavoidable. I am more concerned with health issues than her hair length at this point and was looking for advice from anyone with a child that has experienced sudden hair loss.

Her hair is about 2.5' long and goes past her bottom.
For the past few days I've noticed she is losing hair rapidly. This morning I collected a handful after gently brushing it. I could see it falling out and hitting the chair she was sitting on.
She has recently joined a swim team, swimming 4 days per week. She wears a swim cap. We've been trying to be careful with the cap and we braid and wet her hair prior to putting the cap on. To avoid breakage.
DD also had lice this past weekend. On sunday we had a lice removal company come in and treat her. They said the product was all natural. They did rigorously comb it out. But it's been 5 days and you'd think any hair that had broken would have fallen out by now.
DD also recently came off of blood thinner injections at the end of September.

Any ideas? What would you do?

I would talk to her doctor to see what they say. But, the pps have a point. My DD never had super long hair but, longish and when we cut it the hair grew back thicker. Her friend who had super long hair like your DD had thin hair. Now this also might be hereditary but, I think it is good for hair to be cut once in a while.

PP again, sorry I didn't see the blood thinner. Maybe only the Iron Deficiency then.

All the combing from the lice treatment could have loosened hair that was due to fall out and more is coming out at once. I assume you are continuing to comb for 2 weeks since that's the only way to be sure the lice are gone for good? That would continue this cycle.

Blood thinners can also cause hair loss, although during treatment more so than after, I would think. Also possibly whatever condition she was being treated for could be related.

You are a jerk for saying yuck to something you haven't seen. And you know you made a jerky remark. So yeah.
I don't think she is a model I was being descriptive as to its condition.

Its condition is "falling out". And I have seen oddly long hair on children, I assume that your child looks like they do. And yes, yuck.

It had not fallen out in 9 years up to this point. Her hair is long by her choosing. She gets it cut all the time. She just had 4 inches cut off. You have nothing to add. Go away.

Her hair is gorgeous. It would rival any hair model in a Pantene commercial. And she's not 4 feet tall. Jerk
