I find it's annoying when while visiting DC you park on a public street and all of the sudden some weirdo approaches you and starts claiming the spot as his 'cuz you no man zis and day and shizznit'

OP here, I just wish people would use a bit more courtesy---I get the idea that it's a public street and legally homeowner's don't own it. But if you plan on not moving the car for days pick a spot where it's not in front of someone's house because you just don't know if the homeowner is a elderly person that would appreciate having a spot in front of their home, or a family with children, or whatever the circumstances might be. I move from NYC and know that parking spot is a commodity for many cities---but when I look around and see tons of unrestricted spots around the corner by the park, it just irks me that you chose to park in a spot that I come and go into nearly everyday 7 days a week!

I would be annoyed too. I live in Columbia Heights and there are always trucks with VA plates parked on my street, and they go out of their way to take up as much room as possible because they suck at parallel parking - e.g. they'll park at the end of the block, leaving a space almost but not quite big enough for another car behind them, or leave a giant space on both sides so as to take up two spots. I fantasize about keying their cars.

OP here, it's just annoying, nothing more than that---same feeling you get when you pull into an empty parking lot with a million spots and the next car happens to park directly NEXT TO YOU.

I don't have a gripe when cars park and come and go--but this van just sits there and never moves. Plus, it makes me curious why you would park on this street when you live somewhere else and what made you pick this street and this particular spot?

Anyway, I'll see if this car moves by the end of the week and I'll call it in for "loitering" and expired tags.

I don't get it. Why do you care? Is it taking up a spot you want to use?

So there is enough space on the street for your car(s) and any guests, correct?

That sure is annoying, OP, especially if there is plenty of parking nearby that's not in front of anyone's house. Not sure what you can do though, except wait if see the driver come back and then talk to him.

I'm just here to gripe. I live on a very quiet street with no through traffic. I recognize all my neighbor's cars. Starting last saturday, a random out of state van parks in front of my house and hasn't moved since. I have a security camera facing the street so I noticed yesterday someone drive a car behind the van, unloaded some stuff into his car, and then drove off. I don't recognize the person who drove the car so I suspect the van owner or the driver who came behind the van live on the street. It's just annoying that out of all the places he could park he chose to park in front of my house, as there are parking spaces all along the park a block from my house. Just griping.......
