And here we go.... lecture time!

I really like the story, especially the flashbacks to his childhood. The older of my sons has special needs. So the flashbacks made me a little weepy.

The casting is not so great. The acting is not so great. The way it's filmed is not so great as far as lighting and such. The story is interesting. The medicine is interesting and largely accurate (I'm in medicine.). Although it was unrealistic he didn't know what scut work is since medical students get a lot of it. I think probably more of the spectrum tyoe docs are in internal medicine or go into research.


Anyhow so far I like it a lot and I feel it helps people who don't understand the life of someone on the spectrum and their struggles.

I google about the Korean version of the drama and looks like it only ran for 20 episodes? But it was very popular there but the dramas there don't go on indefinitely. They tell their story and move on I guess.

He IS a good doctor. He remembers details others won't and acts on it. The autism gives him the ability to not care about what others think. My DS has autism and is gifted. He would totally miss the social cues ppl around are giving and just focus on the problem. The show isn't 100% realistic but it is hopeful.

Well, that's the crux of the show's premise, so it's rather important that it's done well, and it isn't.

This is actually the US version of a Korean drama show, same title, same story.

I completely agree with you. Sure there are probably plenty of doctors on the spectrum. They generally are surgeons and as arrogant as hell. This main character just seemed silly and playing like he's an alien in a human body. The board's discussion gave the wrong definition of autism as well as savant. Most savants have really low functioning skills.

I'm enjoying it so far.

Why? I don't have to know the whole universe of autistic people to not like the show. And, apparently from the reviews I've read, I'm not the only person who's seen the show and not liked how they've portrayed the character, among other things.

In my original post, I said I how felt about it and asked others how they felt, so now it's your turn to answer the question.

I'm watching. I think only two or three episodes have aired (the American ones), and I love it. I love seeing how he's thinking and taking things apart in his head. I love that one person is committed to digging in and bonding to him by trying to figure him out.

Yes; I've read several of her books and have seen her speak. While she's definitely atypical, I never get the sense that she's a space cadet or a charicature.

My husband's binge watching "The Good Doctor" and I'm finding it ridiculous. The main character, who's supposed to be autistic, seems like a space cadet cartoon character. Anyone else watch? What did you think?
