If you're taking T for recreational reasons then yes the mood swings can be a problem. I was told that at my levels that wouldn't be a problem -- was on Androgel for several months and then found that regular exercise was getting the job done for me.

My own experience with TRT:

Before I started, I was depressed, anxious, moody, irritable, low sex drive, frequent ED, often fatigued, weak, lots of excess belly fat.

After one year, all those problems are long gone. Couldn't feel better. Now have an absolute need to exercise frequently.

Here is something you might want to look at -- addresses the issues of wives of men on TRT.

A common problem is "wife resents fact DH didn't do TRT sooner". He's all happy and rarin' to go, and she is still thinking about the years of him ignoring her sexual needs.

It is a myth that TRT raises the risk of cancer.

Yes, they can cause the testicles to shrink (didn't happen to me) but so what.

It is a myth that TRT causes aggression. You are confusing TRT with steroid abuse.

The testicle shrinkage is a normal part of exogenous testosterone treatment. The body produces most of it's T in the testes and when you introduce an external source they shrink as your body shuts down its own production. Aggression is most likely only at well above normal dosages (such as what a bodybuilder may use).

OP. Please go along on your DH's appointments and talk to his doc about the benefits and risks.

Just make sure he works out. Having TRT can cause some restlessness - so having a physical outlet will be good.

Yes, he’ll want more sex.

OP here, thanks for the insight. Would you say there was any impact on your relationship when you started the therapy?

Shots work great, start at the 3 week mark and notice improvement. At the 5 week mark he'll need to get more blood work done. They gave me an additional estrogen blocker because my body wanted to convert the extra testosterone into estrogen (No I wasn't watching Lifetime or Oxygen network during that time). Make sure he works out, especially weight work because your physique changes a lot. Check his iron levels, too. I created so many red blood cells and iron that I need to give blood every 45-60 days. I call it the "oil change." As for the sex, he will start to want it more and you'll sense more of a "dominance" from him in bed. There are some minor mood swings, but with exercise, he'll balance a lot more. He'll no longer need the ambien, imho.

Guy here, hopefully he had more than just his T checked. Low T is often a symptom of other things and it's better/safer to fix the primary issue. Mine was due to a vericoselle and high prolactin. I got a minor surgery for the vericocelle and started taking an oral med for the prolactin. With plenty of sleep and working out my T is over 900 (up from 277).

T carries risks of worsening prostate cancer. The ideal scenario is your body producing its own.

To answer your actual question though, I feel less foggy headed, smarter, better memory, less anxiety, better sleep, better athletic recovery and more interested in life in general.

I've always been pretty fit and athletic and before the changes it HURT to walk up stairs just because I was so fatigued. He'll start feeling great in about 3-4 weeks.
