I think true love is bs. Real enduring love and partnership is possible. It's what happens after the butterflies of newness fade that's important. But also important to have the butterflies if that's what you wanted. I haven't been married very long yet (5 years) but we have already been trough serious issues, employment, health, infertility etc. and made it through so far and stronger. I see my parents and inlaws married for 38 and 45 years respectively. They still adore each other but are also true partners in their marriages. It's possible but early new love and butterflies are not enough to sustain.

So only true love is parent and child?

I think you experience true love the minute your baby is born and you realize you will give your life for someone without hesitation. I truly love my DH but I'm not sure it's true love.

Yes, but not for most people. Maybe happens for 10% of the population.

How long have you been together?

Here, I think, is the thing: the movies always END at the 'yay they love each other and now they can be together!' point. They show the exciting all-consuming rush of the initial falling in love, because that's the fun part. They don't show the aftermath 5,10,20 years down the line where the characters who were in fantasyland together have to go through years of daily life crap together.

I hear you though. I have a good life and don't plan to leave, but I too am in what is, for me, a disappointing marriage at least on the connection to my partner level

I believe it exists but is extraordinarily rare.

I don't have it in my life.

The kind they show in Disney and movies. The kind that completes you and makes you feel amazing.
