run from the Dr. who counts on day 9. The count is meaningful only at the beginning of the cycle. You realize that you ovulate only 1 or 2 eggs, right? Not 15. as you get closer to ovulation the count declines.

I read that it also depends on who is doing the ultra sound.??If same tech/RE is doing all your measurement, then the result should be reliable.??But, if one tech does one day and next one with RE, then third one with tech, and so on, the results isn't that reliable.

Your count declines as your cycle progresses and eventually, one (sometimes two) will become the dominant one to ovulate.

Thanks. I understand but why would the number of follicles drop between day 2 and 9? Shouldn't it be the other way?

Amtrak follicle counts are typically done on cycle day 2, 3 or 4. Counting them on day 9 really doesn't mean anything if you aren't on meds to stimulate their growth.

I've had appointments with several different fertility doctors and ultrasounds with each one. On Day 2, one doctor got 7 in one ovary and 8 in the other. He was delighted and said this was slightly better than what he expected from my AMH. One week later, on day 9 of the same cycle, a different doc counted 3 and 4, which he said is worse than what he would expect from my AMH.

I know the second count is bad. Is normal to see a huge decline like that in one week? Does it mean anything one way or the other? I suppose the first doctor might have miscounted, but that would be a huge mistake! (The first doctor's office did not store images from the ultrasound.)

For what it's worth, my cycle is very short.
