Yes, he’s been an active and proud alum. Grinnell had a neat marketing piece called Grinnell by the Numbers and it ended with “... and 1 Starfleet Commander.” That did it for my son - at that point, there was no other option but Grinnell.

I know plenty of Vals/Sals with 1500+ that got rejected ED. There's a lot of false shit being posted on here.

Anyway back the the original question I think for ED if you are in the top 10% of your class and have 1500-1520+ and good ECs your chances of getting in are rather high. During RD it gets much harder, because you are competing with top people who did not get into their first choice ivy+ school during the early round as well as other tippy top people who apply to Hopkins as a backup/match.

Utterly useless replies above. Sorry you had to see it OP. To your question, Johns Hopkins does seem to favor test scores and high academic credentials over other top schools. They also give a rather hefty early decision boost. In my experience, everyone who was near the top 1-5% of their high school class (with the most rigorous courses) and had above a 1500/34 got in, regardless of lacking hooks in other ways.

But, do you really think that USNA is somehow more important for our national defense than USAFA? Or that the contributions to science and culture are any greater at these than at Berkeley, Chicago, Wellesley, Caltech, UCLA, Swarthmore, Duke, Cornell, etc? You need to focus less on some made-up list and more on what actually happens there.

Does anyone have any insights on Johns Hopkins admissions for engineering? Any part of the application that they stress more than others? Like gpa over test scores, leadership, do you have to show particular interest in engineering? We've done some research and it would be a stretch. But dc has near perfect SAT score and wants to try.
