Schedules are very difficult with two single parents. I write this on an “alone” night while the man I would like to be with is at a kid sport event. I’ll have my kids for the next few days. We are lucky if we see each other twice a week.

I've done both, however prefer dating a woman with kids. If we have so much in common, kids are a plus. My children (hope hers as well) will always be my life.

I am divorced and I prefer a divorced mom with kids (I am in my mid-50s so most of the women my age are empty nesters or their kids are almost out of high school.)

I have kids (I am an empty nester) and I have found that it is easier to get along with someone who is also a parent.

My first relationship post divorce was with a woman without kids. It lasted about six months, and one of the main reasons it ended is because I didn't have the open-ended time that can be a lot of fun in new relationships. She was great about everything, just knew she wanted something different and ended things like an adult.

After that, I assumed it would be best to only date women with children, where we'd both understand each other's commitments. I went on quite a few dates and met several women I really liked, but nothing long-term developed. I'm sure many reasons contributed to this, but a big one was conflicting schedules. (I did have one woman who really wanted a relationship with me but I ended it due to seeing no long-term potential. I also was also the dumpee in a similar situation.)

My current relationship is with a woman without children, which I never expected after the previous experience. To answer PP, she's said she doesn't want children but doesn't mind dating someone who does. She's values her alone time and has an active schedule when we're not together, so I think that helps. It's only been two months, so no huge expectations yet, but if you have children and date someone without kids, it does need to be someone who can fill their own time contentedly.

Note to add, I'm fully aware that many women without children would never date a man with kids and that's completely fine.

I'm not a man but it seems like it would be SO hard for a couple who both have kids to spend the time together required to develop a relationship. I don't know how it's done.

To poster above (and others) what about a woman without kids who is ok with not hacing her own kids?

I'm not divorced, but if I was I would prefer to to date one with kids. I don't want someone who wants a new family.

Title says it all. Would divorced dads prefer to date women who have kids, or women who don't have kids? And why - pros and cons?
