Yes, look into their on line behavior-- you should be doing this anyway periodically. But I'll tell you my kid was talking to only one close friend and a couple of trans teens/one college age person - far across the country; no predation. Rather, he was doing a great deal of research via youtube videos. We were concerned he was getting a lot of false information. In fact, he was quite analytical about that and we learned eventually he became exceptionally well informed and it was us, his parents , that needed to catch up. This is not so black and white. If a child really feels trans and has no one he/she feels she/he can talk to about it, things can get much worse. In other words, know what is going on, but find out the facts before jumping to conclusions.

My niece did this for about a year. Found out after the fact that she was communication online with a creepy adult who was trying to talk her into a sex change. She is no longer transgendered.

If your kid suddenly announces they announces they are transgendered, look very carefully into their online activity. This might be happening as a result of online predators manipulating vulnerable kids.
