Family law. Trying to close on a house, and don’t want to raise red flags before closing in 3 weeks

So let me get this straight. You used a lawyer's services, didn't pay them, but now are closing on a house? I hope whoever pays you for your job doesn't decide to stop paying you because it's not convenient or they want to use the money for something else.

What a bum.

+1 Damn, OP. You're not doing yourself any favors by revealing that you don't pay for the services you received simply because it's not convenient for you. I hope this does mess up your home purchase. It's called karma.

Agreed. Really shitty of you not to pay them. They have employees and a business. It sounds like you have the money and just don't feel like it. I hope they sue you.

I was told even though it’s reported to collection agency, it doesn’t hit your credit, if you make payment t arrangement. True?

How much do you owe them?

I haven’t heard from a collection agency either. Can they bypass the collection agency, and report to the bureaus directly?

I’m guessing they use a collection agency.

You should talk to your lawyer.

Many will turn it over to a collections agency.

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes...

Due to a job loss last year, I have been unable to make payments to my attorney. The last payment I made was July last year. I have not heard from them at all. Should I be concerned about them reporting to the credit bureau? Do they have to notify me first? I read somewhere that lawyers generally don’t do that on unpaid fees. Any lawyers that can chime in?
