One day working at Target as a college student. It was the most disorganized, incompetent group of mangers. 20 years later I still laugh about that day.

8 months.

Job was completely different than described. Instead of 0% travel, it was 100% travel. I was on a plane every week for 8 months. At the end of the 8 months, I got an "exceptional" peformance review .... and 0% raise. The reason was that I was already "above average for my position". I got up, handed my laptop to my boss, said "I quit. I won't work for a company that doesn't reward their top performers." and left.

Funny thing is we ended up having dinner that night and she went on to write a stunning recommendation letter for grad school.

3 Weeks. Worked for Fema and was told the job was going to be very different. Would have left after two but there was a bet on how long I would last and I wanted specific people to win the bet.

I just left a job after 1.5 months. It was a “maintenance job,” one of two part-time jobs I took when I really needed a job. The other one offered me full-time hours after only a month, and even though I was overqualified for the one I left (and it had terrible pay, and the hours weren’t great, and...), it was a hard decision.

I worked about 6 months for two bosses when I got out of college--one was a psychotic, nasty bitch (who is still around) and the other was a bitter, mean, gossipy man. The two bosses hated each other and each used me against the other one. I was the fourth person to have that job in one year.

Wow very similar experience 8 years ago. I worked for a “famous” interior designer in NYC.

One month. I ended up with bad anxiety and depression while working in a call center for a prominent company in the area. I couldn't take it anymore

One day, digging ditches for a swimming pool company when I was 17. 90 degrees and pure hell. Eight hours of just digging.

Similar, although I was young and thought something was wrong with me. I didn’t have a job lined up, blew through my savings while I was unemployed looking for a new job. I was pretty depressed at the time. Found out the boss had a blow up with the company she worked for (medium sized, publicly traded), accused them of sexual harassment (which I can’t say for sure wasn’t happening, but more like she was probably the one doing the harassing), and left the company shortly thereafter. I wonder if she’s dead now:

Three months. Started working for a defense contractor and it was miserable.

I think anyone can have at least 1 experience of less than a year. If it's less than 2-3 months I would say don't even put it on your resume.

Ask yourself what red flags you missed in the interview process, then try to avoid the same scenario next time.

How desperately do you need to work?
