Yes, excellent choice. We absolutely love JA at all levels. Would recommend it in a heartbeat. But it has a waitlist. Sounds like OP is looking for an option that still offers space. Although count day having come and gone, that may just not be so easy all around, except your in-boundary option.

FWIW, we have friends at Washington Global and they like it.

Jefferson may have better scores but its still awful Parents with options do not choose jefferson. Also no diversity whatsoever. very very high poverty.

It may not be perfect but I think it's better than Washington Global. JA is no less diverse than Washington Global and has no more poverty.

It is a high-needs school; 100% of students are economically disadvantaged, more than half are considered at-risk, and about 25% qualify for special education services.

I think you need to go and visit and see what you think. It's a school that DCUM largely ignores, probably due to the demographic data and the PARCC scores. But it seems to be doing at least as well as some DCPS schools with equally high-needs students.

What appeals to you? Maybe can suggest schools with similar features you could also lottery for.

But frequent principal changes is pretty common at charters. Wash Global was a total start up (not part of a chain). If that was the only turnover that's not too bad.

I'm a JA parent, not a Brent parent and never have been.
What I care about is that my child is well cared for, loves the school, classmates, teachers, and all, and is doing well academically, enjoying advanced options and challenges. I care about the extracurriculars there and I love the school's engagement with parents. Love the parents, too, by the way. If that doesn't sound like the image you have of JA, then maybe that picture is not (or no longer) accurate.

It has to be better than Washington Global. Not sure how children can learn with all the outbursts. I often had meetings and couldn't hear over the screaming teachers. They barely had control of the class. I don't understand how they can count days of chaos and teacher screaming as "days of instruction?" Horrible! And I cut middle school teachers a lot of slack since I used to teach at a summer program for middle school kids.

This question is posed abotu once a year here and never gets much of a response.

The school does have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Washington-Global-Public-Charter-School-283243225209890/ and a Twitter feed https://twitter.com/washglobalpcs?lang=en with photos mention of students doing academic and extra curricular things.

I worked above this charter before they took over the building. OMG! The teachers spend most of their day screaming at students. The principal was extremely rude. The children are so poorly behaved (they often turn off the escalators at the Metro station while people are on it). I guess if you have no other options send your kids but honestly, you can do so much better than this place!!

Does anyone here have experience with this school? There are still openings.
