OP here. I think you are very quick to make a judgment that screen time is to blame for this. I grew up in a house with no TV and I hated school until college. My child gets far more screentime via Chrimebooks and the smart board than he ever has at home.

In second grade, teachers insist upon silent classrooms. Part of the reason is that they have to do a lot of assessments in which they need to hear students read out loud. Volume control is also something that they intentionally teach. I honestly don't see the value in that. Most of the kids I hear charging for merely trying to help each other. No wonder kids hate second grade.

NP here. It’s also not as exciting as playing in the woods or building with legos. Maybe school shouldn’t have so much sitting still & monotony for young kids.

This. My DS hated school starting in kindergarten. He finally likes most of it now in HS, although still hates a couple classes.

DS is in 2nd grade. He loves seeing his friends, recess, library, and aftercare, but HATES everything else. He says it's all boring, puts up a minor fuss about homework but still does it.

I loved school. I think it sucks that a kid so young already hates school.

It's usually either the teacher or the kids/social dynamic. At times, my son disliked school because it was hard for him to get his work done in time. You might try to get abfeel for the teacher's style, talk to other parents and find out what exactly is going on. Some teachers can be practically abusive in their style and it's been better to find out and address it sooner rather than later in the school year. Good luck!!

Second grade was my least favorite grade. I hated my teacher and she actually ended up getting fired a few years later. I also just remember the material being boring compared to first grade and third grade.

BTW, second grade was my worst year. That is when I started to loathe school.

I hated school from about 1st grade to high school. I loved school in high school.

Hm. My second grade son has started this. He is becoming more social and is getting in trouble for talking during class. I think as the rules and structure increase, he is not liking the changes.

My second grade son says the same. And he fights every single day about doing his homework. He has great friends and a great teacher and barely gets any homework. I'm really looking forward to the next 10 years of schooling (NOT).

My DS is also in 2nd and said it at the beginning of the year. He got better now but is still not a fan.
His teacher has a special talent of making learning a boring chore. She is nice and sweet but is too concentrated on learning skills via worksheets.
He also doesn’t have close friends at school. He plays with kids at recess and aftercare but....

My son was like that in 2nd grade. Then we were lucky enough to be able to change schools and he made new friends and got an awesome 3rd grade teacher. He really enjoyed school that year. Now he’s in 4th and I’m looking forward to another great year for him.

DS is 7 in second grade and says he hates school. He does his work generally and doesn't argue about homework but he says he hates school and all of his friends feel the same way. How common is this?
