City of Richmond is awesome, suburbs you're interested in will be much like where you're living now.

There is no traffic, fantastic biking trails, class 4 (not really sure of the correct terminology) rapids on the James. Great restaurants, VCU basketball, art galleries, many of the same bands that play DC will also stop in Richmond and play at a smaller venue/cheaper tickets, Carytown, VMFA, The Fan, brunch at Joe's Inn, very art centered community.

The city is currently working out how and when to remove the confederate statues on Monument Avenue. No one local is proud of the confederate history.

I grew up in the Fan, attended the public schools (Open High!). I love Richmond!

My parents live in chesterfield county and actually are rather happy there. This was after living in sc for a decade and hating it. Surprised me, too.

I have visited with them a bit and we have enjoyed it. There are some decent museums and activities for kids nearby. Good restaurants. The people seem nice. They have a diverse neighborhood-it's a planned community type place.

Nope. Did you just make that up? Richmond City and Henrico were overwhelmingly for Clinton. In Chesterfield (where Midlothian is located) did vote for Trump but by about 5,000 votes.

Sounds like someone doesn't have a clue about Richmond. Like to make big statements about random stuff you don't know about? People from Richmond can't let he confederacy go? WTC? For example, that confederate heritage protest by the Lee statue a few weeks ago, in Richmond, to protest the potential move of the statute, was a protest started and organized by 3 Lost Cause freaks from TN and Florida, not one Virginian,much less Richmonder in the group. You know how many supporters showed up for that? 4, for a total of 7 people, supporting confederate heritage in Richmond. You know how many counterprotestors/ Richmonders showed up to tell them to go home? Over 1,000.

Born and raised in Richmond. I would not move to Short Pump, ever. Just go ahead and live in Charlottesville, much nicer. And Midlothian is the south side, no to that as well. It's south of the river, it's redneck, they voted for Bratt, trust me. Sure Chesterfield overall has decent public schools but top notch.

If you're going to live in Richmond, then live in Richmond or the true west end of Henrico (like Tuchahoe/tuckahoe/ Freeman triangle if it's the public schools motivating you). Otherwise it's not worth it.

What about Charlottesville? lots of outdoor activities with mountains nearby.

I'm from Richmond and personally could never go back. My friends there love it. Money goes a long way. The place seems to be booming too...lots of new restaurants etc...

I grew up in Midlothian and have a couple good friends living there and in Short Pump.

I will say it's very "keeping up with the Jones-ish" in both places. Especially places like Wyndham, Foxhall, Twin Hickory, Hallsley, Salisbury, etc. Fairly Republican, schools are very white.

My sister recently moved there. She was shocked by the racism. Otherwise she likes it.

We're considering moving to the Richmond suburbs (likely Midlothian/Short Pump). We currently live very nicely in PWC but would like to get out of the DC metro bubble. Can work anywhere for our jobs. Anyone with experience living down there? We have some family/friends living there that seem to like it, though some find it a bit boring. We enjoy outdoor activities, relaxed weekends, etc but would also like to enjoy the city of Richmond. Thanks.
