I have a -9 and -8 and tried Warby Parker. I had to keep sending them back because the lenses kept coming in wrong (I had my PD measured twice, once by them and once by my ophthalmologist, so it wasn't that). I gave up after three tries.

I did get online glasses though, from David Kind, which is very similar but more expensive and higher quality, IMO. I've also tried glasses.com and they were just ok. Costco is great too but don't offer 1.74 high index.

The larger plastic frames are better for high prescriptions as they can hide the thickness of the lens. Who told you metal was better?

+1. I had metal frames as a kid and switched to plastic in high school and college. The plastic ones wore better, though they were heavier. I think the weight issue shouldn't be a problem these days, as I'm assuming lenses/frames have gotten lighter overall.

I was in the Tysons store recently and was wondering if Warby Parker frames are too trendy and whether the trend has actually already passed! I liked the Daisy frames, which I guess is one of not so bulky, trendy frames.

Geez it's an extra $130 for the 1.74 lenses. I don't know if other retailers charge a similar amount for the lens upgrade as I'm not sure what kind of lenses I've had in the past. Maybe I'll check out Costco...

Thanks. Maybe I'll go back and talk to an associate. I actually have plastic frames now (not from WP) and they work ok. My lenses have always been thicker than the frame though, as long as I can remember. I'm not sure I understand about the 1.67 vs 1.7, but I'll ask them about it.

My prescription is -8 and I just bought a pair of Warby Parkers. I went into the store and worked with an associate to find a pair that would work well with a higher Rx. I also paid for the special lens thinning etc. Just got them and I am quite pleased!!

Because their frames are larger, it will be thicker and you want a 1.7 high index. With a smaller frame you can get away with a 1.67 but a frame that is bigger is going to be very noticable.

When you go, show them your prescription and ask them if there are any frames that won't work.

My prescription is the same as yours, and I've had Warby Parker glasses for the past 4-5 years or so. I have the thinner high-index lenses, but they're still very thick - thicker than the frames. However, the lenses are flush with the front of the frame, and it isn't obvious that the lenses protrude a bit on the backside (the part closest to my eyes).

I have a very high prescription as well -10.50. I can only get metal frames because the plastic frames can't hold that thick of a lens. So I don't think Warburg Parker is worth it since the whole point is to get the trendy thick frames that really stand out.

In the olden days, my lenses used to totally distort my eyes so they looked huge through my glasses, but have been really pleased with the 2 I've bought through classicspecs.com Similar to WP with a mail order option, show rooms in BK...

Thanks, I'll specify high index lenses. Hmm smaller glasses don't tend to work for me as I have big eyes plus a somewhat wide face. The medium sizes fit best on me and I need the cat eye look to balance out my face!

Yes, they can fill that and I believe they have high index options so they're not as thick. Mine aren't that bad so I don't know at what point they get very thick. It still might be better to pick a smaller frame?

Just checked it Warby Parker at Tysons and some of the frames were cute. But I'm terribly nearsighted, contact lens prescription is -7.50. Would the lenses Warby Parker provided be ok for my high prescription, or will they be ridiculously thick and look bad?
