Shady grove has a cutoff of 44 bmi for IUI and 40 for ivf - but they actually want 38 since the meds make you gain and you have to be under 40 for anesthesia

actually just checked - it was high 30s. I was extremely overweight -- at least more than 80 pounds overweight, but didn't have PCOS or high blood pressure, high blood sugar etc.. I did lose about 50 during all the cycling.

Go see him.

What is extremely overweight?

GW didn’t say a word to me about my weight. BMI was 30. Healthy pregnancy after IVF.

I was turned away from SG for IVF for the same reason. After a dr saying to me “Incan her you pregnant” at my initial consultation prior to IUIs I since learned that it was entirely abt doing what they can to keep their success stats high.

I agree with the suggestion to at least have a consultation with Dr. Durso and if you move forward with her, look into doing outside monitoring at SG (I did this when I moved on from SG to an out-of-state clinic).

So odd about the weight thing. I was overweight when I cycled with SG -- and gained weight with each cycle -- and no one said anything, although this was several years ago.

How much do you weigh and what is your BMI? Perhaps they are worried about a very high risk pregnancy, OHSS etc.

May I ask why you suggest this?

Because you were successful with her before. If you can’t make the drive daily for monitoring (which I understand) maybe you could have that done at a clinic closer to home.

Maybe the fact that you are 6+ years older and over weight makes them think it won't be successful. How much weight do they want you to loose? Did they tell you why you should loose weight? There has to be a reason and changing practices won't change the reason they suggest you loose weight. I don't think you should add the stress of a 2 hour drive to go to your old doctor but if you try to loose weight and can't you could go to her for a consultation and she what she suggest. Good luck

Post 09/30/2017 05:12     Subject: fertility docs/ centers in the area for overweight patient

I'm 34 years old and current patient of SG. I've previously had 1 child who's 14 by natural conception. Then 6 years later I married and had difficulty getting pregnant. Went to Dr. Durso and was diagnosed with PCOS and did 3 iui attempts with 1 resulting in a miscarriage and 2 were unsuccessful. She recommend IVF and I was pregnant with twins on the 1st try. We now have healthy 6 year old twins. When they were born I had my tubes tied thinking I was done having kids. Earlier this year my husband and I decided we want another baby. We found out that Dr Durso left the area and now practices 2hours away. We decided to go with Shady Grove and had all the testing done and was told I would obviously have to do IVF again but was informed I would have to lose weight first before they would even start the meds/process. I'm the same weight I was when I had a successful IVF before and I would like to explore other options. Does anyone have any experience with the same thing? Where did you go? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
