What's it like for an out of state student.

For the most part, state schools are for those who can't do better.

After UVA, Michigan, Unc, fla, MD.... it the next best.... with Penn State. It's. Top 20 public university.

Great football, best marching band.

Too big, impersonal. Too much of a sports palace. Probably not much diversity.

My son and I toured the university in August, and came away impressed -- which neither of us really expected to be.

It's obviously huge, and a student will need to know how to navigate to find their way there. But the city of Columbus has grown and has a pretty happening social, arts and food scene now. I lived there for 2 years in the early 90s, and it is very different now.

It depends on the criteria. For me, if I was graduating today HS this year, meh.

But, for the HS class of 2020, it is at the edge of totality for the 2024 eclipse. So that makes it a plus. Oberlin, though, is at the center of totality.

Come to think of it, so is Baylor. DD will not be going to Baylor.

I went there. It was good for my situation- I was a strong student from a middle class family in Ohio. I was in the honors college and they gave me quite a bit of money.

It has a huge football culture that takes over the school. Columbus is a nice town but the college is pretty insulted from the city.

I would not encourage my kids to attend unless there was a special program there they were interested in pursuing.
