Of course. I'm also aware that a lot of non-fed but fed-adjacent organizations (like my own) follow a federal schedule for convenience.


I am sure you are aware that not every works for the federal government or federal government-adjacent organizations. There are many people in the region who work for other industries who do not get 10 federal holidays off for convenience.


OK, but lots of people do. If not on Columbus Day, when should MCPS do this?

All schools have it on Columbus Day but they have different rules about when parents can attend. School goes on as normal and parents sit quitely. Usually kids are instructed not to interact with the parents.

In our school you just watch the teachers teach until lunch, then leave. It's interesting if you can make it but not a big deal if you can't.

At our school they are usually 2 hours. You just observe. Some teachers might have an activity parents can participate in...I would not think many would spend the whole day.

Never heard of it. At our moco school we can have lunch with our kids anytime we like. They also did a Dads/male mentor day last week. Have not heard anything about parent visitation day.

What happens during parent visitation day? Just found out the my child's is from 9:30 to 3:30. DC is in kindergarten and our first child so we have no idea what to expect. Not sure we will be able to take the whole day off of work.
