Another perspective (and this is just one small agency, one division) -- the list we get from HR is usually 10-30 people. Then we tend to interview 5-7 of the people on the list.

It means little at this point.

I applied for a federal attorney job. I received an alert yesterday that I was tentatively qualified, and then three hours later that I was referred to the hiring official. Does this mean that they just moved everyone who meets the qualifications to the hiring official? How optimistic should I be? This is the first job I have applied to on USAjobs in ages.
