You realize there are THOUSANDS of under 18s who navigate NYC solo every day? I was one of them.

This says more about you and your kid than anything else.

Completely alone, I'd say 16 or so, but my kids started going with a friend or group of friends in early high school- 14 or 15.

Our 17 year old family friend got himself and friend arrested for drinking in the park on their first day on their own in New York. Therefore it depends on the kids.

It really was. I just imagined them running through the Village holding hands and giggling hysterically, trying to pass for college kids at NYU and flirting, staying up late eating candy, using different accents each time they asked a different person for directions. They're two smart girls who like to get goofy together. The summer before college we sent them to Israel together.

As someone who lived in New York for years, I would NEVER let DC go to NYC without adult before 18.
