My son hasn't gotten the memo. He has a super duper rain jacket.

My MS son has a Marmot rainjacket that he wore today. Mostly he takes it b/c he walks to / from school (although we were running late this AM and I drove him most of the way).

I think it matters how long they think they will be in the rain. 5 minutes waiting for the bus where they can put up a hood is 1 thing - a 15 minute walk is another.

Yep. Friends assure me their daughters are equally indifferent to what makes sense in terms of weather, but that's small comfort.

My middle school DS will wear a raincoat if it's pouring. He will not use an umbrella at all. Normally he won't even wear any type of a coat unless it's snowing outside (then he says it's cold enough for a coat). He will wear pants and longsleeved shirts, unlike several of his friends who wear shorts and short sleeve's all winter long. So at least there is something....

They haven't used umbrellas since they were maybe in 4th grade and I haven't gotten them to wear rain boots since k or 1st grade.

If it's not life threateningly dangerous and I won't be there to listen to them whine whey they're wet and miserable, I try to let it go.

My son will take an umbrella and sometimes he will rain a rain jacket, but definitely not both and no way would he wear waterproof shoes.

We rarely wear rain boots. It has to be pouring. Umbrella yes, coat only when could. They will dry.

I clearly remember skipping class is college when it was pouring because I would not carry an umbrella.

Yes it's a phenomenon. I had no idea that rain gear was not part of tween boys scope. I am learning so much through parenthood.

This is OP - part of what sparked my ranting email was seeing all the girls at their bus stop wearing those tall hunter type rain boots and holding umbrellas, while every boy stood there getting soaked . My kids are middle school aged - maybe by high school they will have enough common sense to use an umbrella!

Totally normal. If they're otherwise healthy, no big deal. They won't get sick just from being wet, and if they're uncomfortable, well, maybe next time they'll make a different choice.

I don't think high school girls want to wear rain hats or rain jackets either, fyi.

My high school boy grabbed an umbrella today like he does every time it rains. His school is under construction so he has to walk outside several times/day. He will wear boots when it snows (but not snow boots) No way he would wear a rain coat or rain hat.

I have 2 tween/teen boys. I (their mom) am one of 3 girls so no personal experience with boys. I find as they age there seem tk be more and more mysterious workings of boys that I just don't get.

Today, it is steadily raining out, yet neither boy would wear a rain jacket, waterproof shoes, a hat or take an umbrella - I'm not that clueless, I wasn't expecting all of that to occur, but how about just one, say a rain jacket?? Now I will waste brain cells worrying that they are sitting through the day at school soaking wet.

Why are boys SO resistant to weather appropriate clothing?!
