Yes convictions. If the ticket is from a speed camera or a red light where they just come in the mail and are addressed to the vehicle owner, they don't count. If it is for a moving violation, unless you successfully fight the ticket, then it is a conviction.

There is also an app they can use to study for the written test (to get their learners permit). You can start driving with them as soon as they get the learners permit.

Usually you take drivers ed after that because there is a driving component to drivers ed and they need a permit for that.

At 15 years and nine months, a kid is eligible for a learners permit. To get it, your kid must take his paperwork to the DMV (which includes verification of school attendance) pass a vision test and pass a written driving test. Once that happens your kid can start learning to actually drive. You can teach or you can pay someone to teach. Your kid will have to log 60 hours of driving in various situations (side roads, highways, days, nights . . .) plus take an approved drivers ed course (30 hours including on the road time). After nine months with the permit, 60 hours of driving and thee class, if your kid hasnt gotten any driving convo toons, your kid can take the text.

I am looking online and totally confused. When do they start working with a school or us? 15? Then apply at 15 for provisional and get full license barring issues at 18? I guess I am looking for the first step in the process. Thanks!
