Why are you seeking an evaluation? Learning disability concerns? Autism? ADHD?
Nope. You don't get a price cut based on what you're looking for. If you're planning on doing the ADOS, get someone who is experienced, but it will be negligible in terms of over all cost.
That's not what the PP is saying. There are multiple levels of testing. You determine what kind of testing to get based on your concerns. On another thread, an OP was looking strictly looking to get an ADHD diagnosis. That's cheap as a primary care physician can do it based on symptoms. If you suspect learning disabilities, you'll want more comprehensive testing that is generally sufficient for run-of-the-mill LDs and only cost about $1500. If you have more complex set of LDs and need to tease out sub-components of memory and processing, that's going be in the $3,000-5,000 range.
Most kids don't 'need' the more expensive testing but parents will get it because it provides so much more information.
A primary physician can but really isn't qualified. Contributes to the misuse of drugs.
Yes, you do need comprehensive testing b/c ADHD is often co-morbid with other LDs. Also some things look like ADHD from a cursory "evaluation" that aren't. People end up medicating for a problem their kid doesn't have.
