I agree with this. Why clutter your house with more stuff? Take a weekend to yourselves, just the two of you.

I guess if you guys are very sentimental or traditional, then go for it with the paper theme. Otherwise, take him away somewhere for the weekend.

I got my DH vintage tickets from his favorite band and framed them. He got me a book of Shakespeare sonnets with tickets to the Shakespeare theater in it. We had a lovely time!

I got my husband some vintage postcards from where we went on our honeymoon the previous year. I had no money, and it was pretty cheap. For his 40th, I got him some vintage concert posters from Wolfgang's Vault.

Op here- thanks for the suggestions, i know he is ordering an album and photos as i saw him working on them ( was supposed to be a surprise) , so i guess i should come up with something different
