Anyone use a company for install that you would recommend?

$1K seems very reasonable. We paid more than that for our direct vent installation, and all they really had to do was punch a hole in the exterior masonry wall for the intake/exhaust (we had the gas line run and framing complete before they came on site)

$1k seems pretty reasonable. You'll need to run gas and electric to the opening. The installation includes dropping exhaust and combustion air from the chimney to the unit. Plus, it's a couple of hours to assemble and complete the installation...yeah that's pretty darn reasonable. We paid about $4k for the insert and installation a year or so ago.

We also did a new construction model - that was closer to $7k but it was part of a larger framing job so alone it would have been more.

It also varies depending on the type of insert. If you are getting a ventless gas fireplace installed in a wood fireplace, the installation in easy because no change is needed to the flue (just running a gas line to the fireplace). If you are getting a vented fireplace (see if you are getting a system with a glass cover and a fan that blows out heat into the room for more efficiency), installation is complex because the installer needs to install a series of baffles and significantly modify the flue.

Are you talking about putting a gas insert into an existing wood burning fireplace or a brand new installation. If it is the latter your costs will be MUCH higher than $1000. You will need a contractor to build the framing for the insert, a gas contractor to run the gas line to the fireplace, the fireplace and install itself, and then the finish work to make it look decent. Figure $10,000 at least.

Thanks for the reply! My quote was $1900 for 2 installed, plus $3600 by a gas fitter to run the 2 gas lines, plus the cost of each unit is separate from all that. Looking at around $12k for all this. I'm also installing into 2 existing brick fireplaces.

It is easily possible to pay a lot more than that, depending on the kind of fireplace you want and the difficulty of the install. Our quote was $3250 for the install PLUS $3000 for the fireplace itself.

I'm researching prices to have gas fireplace inserts installed in my home. One company quoted just about $1,0000 per fireplace, just for the installation of the insert. Does this seem excessive, or average for DC?? Anyone have similar work done recently; if so what was your average cost? Thx!
